What is a Unterstützungskasse?
A Unterstützungskasse is an Austrian mutual support institution funded by voluntary contributions from members and/or their employers. From these funds, the board grants support entirely at its discretion — there is no legal entitlement to a specific benefit.
Is ÖUK an insurance company?
No. ÖUK does not sell insurance products and does not guarantee benefits. It's a classic mutual support fund whose benefits always rest on the board's discretion.
Who can become a member?
Employees can join alone or together with their employer, who can also contribute.
Voluntary contributions
How much is the voluntary contribution?
€25 per month, whether you pay alone, your employer pays alone, or both together (€25 each, €50 total).
Can I contribute extra?
Yes, voluntary top-ups are possible any time on top of the monthly voluntary contribution.
What happens if I change employer?
Your membership and contribution record stay with you as a person, independent of your employer.
Applications & decisions
What can I apply for?
Unemployment, illness, or a bereavement in your close circle. More categories are planned.
How long does a decision take?
AI triage typically completes within minutes; the board decision depends on the individual review.
Why doesn't the AI decide directly?
So that support stays a genuine discretionary benefit, only the board makes the final decision — the AI only provides an explainable recommendation.
Can I appeal a decision?
A decline doesn't create a legal entitlement, but you can ask the board to reconsider with additional documentation.
For employers
How do I set up a company account?
Via the contact form or directly in the portal — add your company details, invite your team, choose a voluntary contribution model.
Can I change the contribution model later?
Yes, any time, and individually per employee.
